WELCOME Dr. Lucas Schulte to give the message today. Lucas is married to Leah, and the father of Cecilia and Samuel. He grew up near Kearney, and teaches religion at UNL and Eden Seminary. He specializes in Hebrew Bible and Second Temple Judaism. His professional interests include Judah in the Persian Period, the relation between texts and archaeology for histories of Israel, textual criticism of the Hebrew Bible, the texts and community of Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls, and apocalyptic literature in Second Temple Judaism and early Christianity.

 

 

TRUNK OR TREAT – The Outreach Commission needs you!  Can you decorate your "trunk" and help us serve our neighbors?  Let your imagination run wild! Wednesday, October 24th  6-7:30pm.  Contact Kathy Boshart or the Outreach Commission with questions.

 

 

MEAT CANNING – Dallas Schlegel is planning a trip to MCC meat canning in Newton on Nov 7-8.  Please talk to him if you'd be interested in participating: it would help the planners if they knew how many of us are coming.

CONFERENCE PRAYER REQUEST - Pray for the Omaha Chin Christian Church in Omaha, NE as they explore connections with CPMC. This is a congregation made up of persons from the western side of Burma (Myanmar), near India. 

 

 

FMC MOVIE NIGHT - Invite your friends and bring the family to First Mennonite on Friday, November the 2nd at 6:30 pm., for the Christian movie, "I Can Only Imagine".  This is the true story of Bart Millard (Lead singer of MercyMe), his troubled childhood and mended relationship with his Dad that inspires him to write the hit song "I Can Only Imagine".

YAMS & STUFFING for People's City Mission -- donations taken from October 21 through November 10! Give someone a brighter Thanksgiving! Outreach Commission asks you to share in the donation of food gifts for the People's City Mission. We have a goal this year of 100 large cans of yams and 200 boxes of stuffing. Large cans of green beans would also be appreciated. Thanks to everyone for your donation! NURTURE COMMITTEE UPDATE - The nurture committee is partly responsible for developing some of our schedules.  This year, the schedulers will be:  transportation - Barb Schlegel; nursery - Laure Nickel; greeters - Jolene Boshart.  If you are not on these schedules and would like to help with these aspects of FMC, please let us know.                 We are also responsible for the makeup of small groups.  If you are not in a small group and would like to get involved in one, please talk to Jolene, Laura or Barb.  Thank you!!
