POTLUCK NEXT SUNDAY - We will have a potluck meal next
Sunday, July 11, and we hope you can join us. There will not be a potluck on our usual third Sunday of the
month. Please bring a main dish and a
salad or dessert to share.
CONFERENCE REPORTING - This morning we will receive
reports of the 2010 annual meeting of our Central Plains Mennonite
Conference. Our delegates are David
and Anita Breckbill, Stan Harder, and David Orr.
MISSION TRAVEL FUND - Designated contributions to the
mission travel fund will help cover the $4,450 cost of Sara Brubacher's
service with Mennonite Central Committee's SALT (Serving and Learning
Together) program for the coming year.
She will be living in Jerusalem and will work with Sabeel, an
ecumenical grassroots liberation theology movement among Palestinian
Christians. Be sure to see her
display in the fellowship hall for more information. If giving exceeds the need, funds may be
used to send short term visitors to the region or for other mission travel
needs.
DAVID ORR will be leaving on July 10 to attend his
nephew's wedding in Ohio. He will
return from vacation on July 24.
Contact our congregational chairperson, David Breckbill, with any
needs during his absence.
GUEST SPEAKER - Sriprakash Mayasandra will be our guest
speaker next Sunday. Sri currently
serves as Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Asia Regional Peace Networker,
based in Pune, India. He previously
worked for MCC in Jerusalem and Damascus, Syria. In addition to his work with MCC, Sri is Volunteer Coordinator
with Deep Griha Society, an organization working to better the lives of
people living in the slums of Pune.
Sri is a good friend of First Mennonite Church and was a member of the
congregation during his time in Lincoln.
IMMIGRATION BOOKS - The Economic Justice Team
requested an immigration theme for our latest box of books from the
Conference Resource Library. Our
librarian, Nancy Peters, has arranged them on the Economic Justice Table in
the fellowship hall.
SUMMER AFTERNOONS - High School youth will next meet
at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28 for mini-golf at Adventure Golf (S
56th St. just south of Old Cheney Rd.). Save the date!
BIRTHDAY OFFERING NEXT SUNDAY - We will celebrate all the
July birthdays and anniversaries next Sunday. You are invited to contribute to our special offering during
the worship service. All the money is
used to support three students in India in their education.
