Announcements

STAND TO SING - To eliminate that moment of uncertainty, Worship Committee has agreed that we will ask all who are able to stand for all songs, unless instructed otherwise.

DAVID & SHARON ORR - The Orrs will be leaving for a week of vacation in Ohio this afternoon.  David Breckbill will be our special speaker next Sunday.

COFFEE AND MORE - The First Mennonite Youth Group is proud to offer fairly traded products from Equal Exchange to support youth group activities and the youth group's National Conference trip.  You can purchase these products in the Fellowship Hall.  Thanks for your support!

AMAZON - It adds up.  In the three months ending October 31 the church earned more than $100 in Amazon.com referral fees.  Link through www.fmclincoln.org/Commercial_Links.htm.

THIRD WAY FELLOWSHIP - Our UNL discussion group will not meet this week but will resume at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1.

THANK YOU - A big thank you for all the yams and stuffing that you donated for the People's City Mission.

FEELING ARTISTIC? - A competition for the 2010 MCC Sale T-shirt/Sweatshirt design is being held.  The theme is "New Hope in the Name of Christ".  Entries are due by January 31, 2010.

GIFTS OF LOVE STORE - City Impact's Gifts of Love store is coming in December. This is an opportunity for qualifying families to shop for Christmas gifts at prices 70% off of retail. Here are two ways you can be involved:

Volunteer to help.  Dec. 8-15 there are opportunities to help with setting up the store, helping parents and children shop, gift wrap, cashier (using a calculator).  We have 10 slots reserved on Sat. Dec. 12, 2:30-5:00 pm, when parents shop, and 20 slots Tues., Dec. 15, 5:30-8:00 pm, when kids shop.  Let Wanda Stauffer know if you can help, or go to cityimpact.org to sign up for times on other days.

Donate Gifts.  Bring unwrapped items to the church by Dec. 6. We need gifts for all ages, children and adult, especially teenagers.  If possible, include the price, so they know how much to discount each item.  Don't have time to shop?  Donate money and City Impact will do the shopping for you.

City Impact now meets at First Baptist Church, 1340 K St.

CHRISTMAS BRUNCH - All women and girls are invited to begin celebrating the Christmas season by coming to the Women's Christmas Brunch.  Set aside Saturday morning, December 5 at 10:00 a.m. to come to the church for food, fun and celebration.  Bring a donation to help support the projects of the Mennonite Women USA, projects that help women here and overseas to connect with each other and with God.  Also, bring a gift for our "new" kitchen of hot pads, kitchen towels, dishcloths.

ATTENTION ALL WOMEN!! SAVE THE DATE!! - The Nebraska Mennonite Women's Retreat will be March 6 & 7, 2010 at the Leadership Center in Aurora, Nebraska.  This year's speaker is Cindy Hostetler from Phoenix, Arizona who will be speaking on the topic of prayer.  We are planning a wonderful weekend full of fun, relaxation, humor, and fellowship, as well as worship and spiritual input from God's Word.  Mark the date on your calendar and plan to attend!  Hope to see you there.

ADULT CLASSES - The new quarter of Adult Sunday School begins in December.  Three classes will be running during that time.

1.  Nancy Peters and Glen Riedel will share the teaching of the uniform series; the theme this quarter is "Christ the Fulfillment."

2.  Rick Stauffer will lead a continuation of the study of the film "Fireproof."  This class will likely continue into the beginning of January.

3.  The past teaches us a lot about who we are today and how we became that way.  We have a shared history that goes back 500 years:  The Anabaptist story.  A fascinating story of radical faithfulness, civil disobedience, romance and torture, industrial successes and political refugees. If you were not born into a Mennonite family, this story applies to you as well, since all of us at one time or another have decided to (or are contemplating if we should) adopt "Mennonite" as part of our identity.  Come share your story about what made us what we are today in a Sunday School class led by Stan Harder. If you have ever wondered why Mennonites act in the "unique" way they do, this class is for you.  This is not a typical history class: No tests and no required textbook (although there is an optional romance novel available).
