WELCOME - Thank you to Sharon Kennel for sharing with us today.  Sharon is the Central Plains Conference Minister and she is the grandmother of Kristopher and Benjamin Nitzsche.

CITY IIMPACT NEEDS YOU! - Help City Impact raise awareness, funds and gifts for its annual Gifts of LoveTM Community Christmas Store (slated for Dec. 9-15).  The December store gives need-qualified parents the opportunity to shop with dignity for new gifts for their children at 70% off retail prices, helping over 1550 children in 2008.  Volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts to collect gifts/donations, hand out flyers, sell concessions, etc.  A great service opportunity.
          FRIDAY JULY 31 - SUNDAY AUGUST 2

TOO BUSY TO COME TO A RETREAT? - Then this is the retreat for you!  Women's Retreat at Swan Lake Christian Camp, Viborg, South Dakota on September 19-20, 2009.  Andrea Wall will help us to spend time reflecting on our busy lives and addressing the question, "God is not in a hurry...so why are we all the time?"  This will be a weekend where you can put on the brakes, take a much needed rest, be offered permission to consider slowing down and to discover pathways to the abundant life that God is offering you.  For a schedule of the weekend, check the registration form and poster that was sent to our church.  Cost: $55.

HOLMES LAKE LANTERN FLOAT AUGUST 2 - The Annual Hiroshima-Nagasaki Commemoration and Lantern Float at Holmes Lake commemorates President Truman's August 2, 1945, decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan. It also looks forward to recently promised agreements to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world and examines the threat that STRATCOM may pose to nuclear peace.  The event will include statements from the victims of the bomb, the construction of the Japanese lanterns for the float, traditional instrument music, clerical statements, poetry and more.  The event will begin at 6:30 P.M. with the making of the lanterns, the formal program will begin at 7 P.M., and the floating of the lanterns on the lake will come when darkness comes, about 9 P.M.  Materials for the lanterns will be provided.  First Mennonite Church is a co-sponsor.

LETTER TO FIRST MENNONITE CHURCH:

Hello Church Family,

I have been offered the opportunity to participate this August in a Peace Workshop

I am looking forward to sharing what I have learned from this experience here and in Canada, where I go to University.  I am already scheduled to speak at First Mennonite the first Sunday I am back, and am excited to see what that initiates.

If you are interested in hearing more or possibly helping with finances for the trip, I have a letter with more information. I will be in the lobby after the service. Thank you for your support!

Peace,

Sara Brubacher
