CITY IMPACT NEEDS YOU! - Help City Impact raise awareness, funds and gifts for its annual Gifts of LoveTM Community Christmas Store (slated for Dec. 9-15). The December store gives need-qualified parents the opportunity to shop with dignity for new gifts for their children at 70% off retail prices, helping over 1550 children in 2008. Volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts to collect gifts/donations, hand out flyers, sell concessions, etc. A great service opportunity.

LANTERN FLOAT - In remembrance of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and as a reminder to never let this happen again, come to a lantern float at Holmes Lake on Sunday, August 2 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. This year's event remembers the decision to drop the atom bomb made by President Truman at the end of the Potsdam Conference, August 2, 1945; it also recalls the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombings, and celebrates the possibility of nuclear reductions in the new round of Russian-American negotiations. Sponsored by Nebraskans for Peace, it includes music, poetry, and more. |
