SEAGOING COWBOYS - A program to honor area "seagoing cowboys" will be held June 11, at 3:30 p.m. at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church in West Des Moines, Iowa.  The program is part of a five-state tour featuring a short documentary film about the seagoing cowboys who tended livestock sent on ships to Europe and China following World War II for post-war rehabilitation. Of the 7,000 men and boys who made these trips, nearly 1,000 of them were Mennonite. All seagoing cowboys present will be recognized.  For more information, see www.seagoingcowboys.com.

CALLING ALL GOLFERS - MCC Golf Tournament is June 13th, at Hidden Acres Golf Course in Beatrice.  It's a 2 Person Scramble with an 8:30 AM Shotgun start.  Call the Golf Course at 402-228-2146 to sign your team up or reserve a cart.  Details at www.NebraskaMCCSale.org.

STUDENTS IN 9-12th GRADES - Bethel College's annual Summer Science Institute for high school students, June 7-12 on the Bethel campus, still has a few openings, and this year you can attend free but you need to act soon. Alumni donations have made scholarships available for the maximum number of applicants (20), to cover tuition, room and board, reading materials, 2009 SSI T-shirt and an hour of college credit. See http://www.bethelks.edu/community/summercamps/summerscienceinstitute.php or contact Jon Piper, 284-5215; Dwight Krehbiel, 284-5211; or Clark Oswald, 284-5313.

LETTER FROM PALESTINE - See the main bulletin board for a letter from Jessica Frederick, who was recently here to share with us about her Christian Peacemaker Team work.

Announcements

WELCOME - Our speaker today is Brady Beran.  Thank you, Brady, for your willingness to share with us.

NEXT SUNDAY - Our speaker next Sunday will be Howard Keim, president of Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas.

INVITATION - You're invited to Ben Breckbill's senior piano recital/graduation party today at the Unitarian Church of Lincoln (6300 A Street).  The recital will begin at 4:00, and the graduation party will follow from 5:00 to 6:00.

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT - Zachary Curtis Boyd was born to Katie and Bill on Friday, May 22.  He weighed 7 lbs., 12 oz. and was 20 inches long.  The rosebud on the altar is in honor of Zachary's birth.  Congratulations to Katie and Bill.

BABY SHOWER - A baby shower for Bill and Katie Boyd, and baby Zachary will be held at First Mennonite Church on Sunday, June 28, after the potluck lunch.  Mark your calendars and join us for the celebration!

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL STARTS - New classes begin next Sunday, June 7 -- all are welcome. The Uniform Series theme for the summer is Call Sealed with a Promise, with passages chosen from Exodus through Deuteronomy.  The second class will spend the first six weeks studying the books Jonah and Ruth using a guide from the Good Ground series.  Study guides for both are available on the table in the meeting room behind David's office, or ask Gerry Cooney.

BUILDING OFFERING - Today we give thanks to God for the new space we enjoy with a special building fund offering.  We are depending upon this offering to cover a little more than half of our mortgage payments for the second three months of this year, a total of $1,800.76.  The offering is an opportunity to meet this obligation together.  The building offering will be in addition to our regular tithes and offerings.  Contributions designated "building fund" are invited and may be made at any time.

SUMMER SIGN-UP - Sign up now to teach children's Sunday School this summer.  Summer is almost here, and we like to give our year-long teachers a break.  Please sign up on the bulletin board by the kitchen to help out for a Sunday or two.  This is a great opportunity to build relationships with our children here at FMC, or perhaps try out your talent of teaching, without a long commitment.  Check your schedule and sign up soon.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL SIGN-UP - You won't want to miss Bible School on July 15 and 16!  Kids, sign up now in the fellowship hall if you can come.   We need lots of volunteers to sign up, too.  See Tammy Riedel if you have questions.

GET READY FOR OUR GARAGE SALE - As you spring clean, save all your extra stuff for the FMC Garage Sale.  It will be held on Saturday, June 27 at First Mennonite Church.  Donated items can be dropped off at church starting one week before the sale and please be sure to price them yourselves before you drop them off.   We need your help to donate garage sale items, bring baked goods, and volunteer at the sale.  The proceeds will go to the landscaping and playground projects.

PARENTING WORKSHOP - The Samaritan Counseling Center will conduct a parenting workshop, "Parenting with Love and Logic", for parents of children and teens of all ages.  This is a two-day workshop on Saturdays June 20 and 27 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Center at 8650 Pioneers.  Cost is $90 per person, which includes a book.  For an additional person to attend without a book, the cost is $60.  Light refreshments will be provided.

To register for this workshop, call the Center at 483-5117.  To learn more, visit the Samaritan Counseling Center website at www.SamaritanCenter.com.
