Call to Worship

Micah 6:6-8

All:

With what shall I come before the LORD,

and bow myself before God on high?

Men:

Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,

with calves a year old?

Women:

Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,

Men:

with ten thousands of rivers of oil?

Women:

Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,

the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?"

He has told you, O mortal, what is good;

and what does the LORD require of you

FOCUS ON PALESTINE - At noon everyone is welcome to share a potluck meal.  Donations will be received to support the work of Christian Peacemaker Team member Jessica Frederick who serves in the Palestinian village of At-Tuani.

At 1:00 Jessica Frederick and Palestinians Issa and Fayruz Ismail will give a brief update.

SPEAKER TODAY - We welcome Gordon Brubacher, our special speaker this morning.  Gordon received his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near Eastern Studies from Drew University.  He has been a professor of Bible, Archeology, and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Messiah College, Doane College, and the Tantur Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem.  He is currently teaching at Creighton University.

MISSION STIMULUS PAYMENT - Many mission organizations are struggling during these challenging economic times.  People's City Mission has had to reduce staff.  Mennonite Central Committee has made painful cuts.  Mennonite Mission Network has been facing income shortfalls for several years.  In response, Leadership Board has agreed to make special gifts of $1,000 to help each agency.  We are thankful for your generosity that makes this possible.

BAPTISM EXPLORATION VIDEO - View the Baptism Exploration Group's video on the website www.fmclincoln.org.

NEXT SUNDAY - Matt & Elizabeth Troyer Miller will lead a combined Sunday School class for Jr. Youth through adults and will be our guest speakers for the worship service.  Matt and Elizabeth were members of the Central Plains Mennonite Conference touring group, Seeds of the Kingdom.  They currently live in Shickley and attend Salem Mennonite Church.

SABBATICAL - Pastor David Orr will be on sabbatical May-July.  For pastoral care needs, contact congregational chairperson, Brenda McLey.  Nurture Commission chair, Dallas Schlegel, is the alternate contact.  Prayer Chain requests should be directed to Brenda.  Helping Hands will be responsible for opening the building each Sunday.  The Trustees will handle closing the building.

PHOTOGRAPHY DISPLAY - Carol Knieriem has some of her nature photography on display at the Noyes Art Gallery, 119 S. 9th St., until the end of April.

NEW BOX OF BOOKS - We've received a new selection of books from the District Conference Library focusing on (light) fiction and servant leadership.  Also included are a few children's titles.

Peruse them & use them!  Books are due back on or before June 7.  Please leave your name & title borrowed on a 3 x 5 card in the basket at the book display.
