SABBATICAL PLANNING - The church has granted David Orr a sabbatical.  He will be on leave during from May 1 through July.

Announcements

 

HOMEMADE FOOD NEEDED - First Mennonite Church is responsible for providing the following homemade items for the Soup Supper at the MCC Sale on Friday, April 3 in Aurora: 

               15 pies, 12 loaves of bread, and 8 jellies

There is a signup sheet posted on the bulletin board for you to indicate what item(s) you would be willing to donate.  Any extra amounts of food that are not used for the Soup Supper will be sold either at Priced Foods or submitted to the auction on Saturday.  Thanks for your help!

 

FOSTER CARE CLOSET - Last day is today!  Thank you for bringing donations for the Foster Care Closet at First Mennonite Church during March!  If you brought some items today, please leave them on east side of Classroom #1.

   

HOSTS NEEDED - Looking for hosts for the Peacemaking Workshop, which will be held at our church on the morning of Saturday, April 4.  Let David Orr know if you could help.

 

WOMEN'S SPRING TEA - Get your aprons ironed! (just kidding). All women and girls are invited to a brunch on Saturday, April 25, at 10:00 a.m. at the church.  If you have a favorite apron, bring it. Sign up to attend by April 12 on the bulletin board near the kitchen. There is also a sign-up sheet for those willing to bring food.  Feel free to invite a family member or friend and come join us for a morning of fun!

 

BAPTISM CLASS WEDNESDAY - The Baptism Exploration Group will meet this Wednesday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. at church.

 

CONCERT OPPORTUNITY - Internationally renowned baritone Kyle Ketelsen will be in residence at Doane College (in Crete) March 31-April 3, and will be performing in a concert also featuring Doane choirs and students on Thursday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Heckman Auditorium.  The accompanist for Ketelsen's solo set is David Breckbill, who in addition will accompany two opera scenes featuring Doane students.  This concert is free and open to the public.

 

MISSING & NEEDED - One book remains unreturned from the Box of Books:  TURN MY MOURNING INTO DANCING by Henri Nouwen.  If you borrowed this book and still have it, please return it as soon as possible to David Orr's office or Ruth Chantry's mailbox.  We are also looking for volume 3 of INTERPRETER'S DICTIONARY OF THE BIBLE.  Thanks much!

 

MCC GOLF TOURNAMENT - The tournament is June 13th, at Hidden Acres Golf Course in Beatrice.  It's a 2 Person Scramble with an 8:30 a.m. Shotgun start.  Call the Golf Course at 402-228-2146 to sign your team up or reserve a cart.  Contact Glen Riedel if you need more information.

 

The Peacemaking Workshop XXII is hosting Anna Baltzer, Jewish American, Columbia University graduate, Fulbright scholar, author, and granddaughter of Holocaust refugees.  Anna is touring the US with her book, Witness in Palestine: A Jewish American Woman in the Occupied Territories. She will be in Lincoln for three unique presentations:

  • 1:00 pm - "Conflict & Peacemaking in Israel / Palestine: A Historic Overview" - Nebraska Wesleyan University (5000 St. Paul Ave.), Miller Chapel, Old Main Building
