Neighborhood Garage Sale

Garage Sale

 

A Neighborhood Garage Sale will be held in the First Mennonite Church parking lot on Saturday, May 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Rain date for the event is Saturday, May 12.

Baked Goods and Lunch will be available for purchase.

Church neighbors are invited to sign up for a free table to sell their stuff, while they last.  Call 402-467-1526.

Bike Drive

Bike KitchenBike Kitchen supports riders and those that need transportation by providing bikes for those in need and educating those that don't know how to repair their own bikes.

First Mennonite Church is gathering bikes and related items to donate to Bike Kitchen on March 25.

Murder Victim’s Sister Speaks Against Death Penalty

Miriam Thimm KelleMiriam Thimm Kelle, sister of James Thimm who was tortured to death in the 1985 Rulo cult slayings, will speak against the death penalty during the 10:45 a.m. worship service at First Mennonite Church, Lincoln, on Sunday, February 19.

Kelle opposes the execution of Michael Ryan, her brother's killer, scheduled for March 6. She has spent years working for the abolition of capital punishment in Nebraska and other states. "I don't feel that we have the right to say who should live or die. That's for God to decide," said Kelle, a member of the Beatrice Mennonite Church.

Wonderfully Made CoverThe women's Sunday School class will begin a study of the new book: Wonderfully Made: Women, Faith, and Self-Care by Terri J. Plank Brenneman on Sunday, February 19.

According to this book, to offer good and healthy care to
others, we need to nurture and replenish ourselves.

Ten Thousand Villages Benefit Day

Sunday, November 13, is First Mennonite Church's "Benefit Day" at Ten Thousand Villages in Lincoln's Haymarket and we want to help Foster Care Closet. 

Ten Thousand Villages HaymarketThe store is sharing 10% of total sales that day and First Mennonite has designated the proceeds for the Foster Care Closet. 

Yams and Stuffing Collection

Canned Yams

First Mennonite Church is collecting canned yams and boxes of stuffing mix for People's City Mission to distribute to needy families, along with turkeys and other Thanksgiving food items. 

Our goal is 300 of each.

As of November 8 we have received:

Yams: 115

Stuffing 145

Deadline is Sunday, November 13.
